PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Moto 360 is an iconic modern timepiece powered by Android Wear. Comfortable, familiar and crafted with the finest materials, Moto 360 keeps you up to date without taking you away from the moment. Pair with any smartphone running Android 4.3 or higher and simply glance at your wrist to see Google Now updates, notifications or just speak to get the info you need. 

Moto 360 is designed and engineered using custom components & premium materials, it is the first iconic pure round connected watch.

CHALLENGES

There were technical, ergonomic, aesthetic and cultural design challenges. 

Technical: Rather than saying “what could this be?” with existing tech, we asked “what should this be?”.

Ergonomic: We made hundreds of models to realize a design that would fit a broad range of percentile wrist sizes, optimized for a glance-able UI experience.

Aesthetics: The quality of the ‘Object Design’ was critical to success so we focused on a few areas: 

a. Pixels to the edge. We obsessed how to deliver a first of its kind - when you turn it on all the pixels light up. This was not another CE device; it needed new thinking & construction.

b. High quality materials. People are attuned to material quality; the case needed to be Metal not Plastic, but was a technical hurdle. With Horween Leather Co. we developed custom leathers to compliment the craftsmanship of Moto 360.

Cultural: Smart watches before Moto 360 launched had a bad rap. Moto 360 changed expectations for the category.

SOLUTIONS

Problem 1:  Today staying ‘connected’ using a smartphone requires you to often be removed from the world around you: It interrupts your interactions with people; It often requires ‘Snack’ or ‘Meal’ sized durations of interaction.

Solution 1: Moto 360 solves this by being primarily focused on ‘Bite sized’ interactions, short glance-able interactions - allowing you to stay connected, but also more engaged with the world around you. Powered by Android Wear with a wide selection of apps, Moto 360 tells you so much more than just the time. From Google Now notifications to call/text/email alerts to wellness tracking, you will get all the best services at just a turn of your wrist.

Problem 2: Wearable technology that has broad appeal.

Solution 2: With a classic round face, the design looks more like a stylish high-quality men's watch, rather than a gadget.

Voice control makes it easy to get things done, even when your hands are full. Just say "OK Google" and you can send texts, set a reminder, check the weather, and even ask for directions. You can also scroll between notifications with a simple flick of the wrist.
